The CW releases new Apple TV app that doesn't require cable provider authentication
The CW today updated its iOS app with a pair of new features that Apple users will greatly appreciate. With the update, which bumps the app to version 2.13.1365, iOS and Apple TV users can now watch their favorite content on their TV…First off, the update adds long-awaited support for AirPlay. This means that you can be watching something via the CW app on your iPhone or iPad and instantly send it to your Apple TV by tapping the new AirPlay icon in the app. But for fourth-gen Apple TV users, The CW has more in store…Today's update also brings with it a brand new Apple TV app for tvOS. This eliminates the need for AirPlay entirely and allows you to simply browse content from The CW on the Apple TV itself. Interestingly, there's no cable login or login of any sort required. So once you download the app from the tvOS App Store, you can instantly start watching the latest shows from The CW. The content is ad-supported, though, so that's where revenue is coming from for the network. It's unique that The CW is not requiring any sort of login to stream content. Generally, TV networks require a cable login in order to verify that you're a paying cable TV subscriber. The CW, however, appears to have opted for an ad-supported streaming model, instead.Additionally, the CW app on iOS also added Chromecast support with today's update. Now, you can stream content to your TV with Google's affordable TV dongle, as well. The full changelog for the latest version of the CW app can be read below and the app can be downloaded from the App Store for free.
